Charity poker event at Mardi Gras features Joe Rose

WQAM 560 AM radio hosts Joe Rose and Zach Krantz are among the players at the seventh annual Thomas A. Magill Texas Hold-em Tournament Saturday at the Big Easy Poker Room at Mardi Gras Casino.

The event is in honor of former Police Chief Thomas A. Magill, who died suddenly in 2010. The Hallandale Beach Police Athletic League and the casino worked together to establish a scholarship fund in his name, and proceeds also help pay for sports equipment, uniforms and officials.

Entry is $100, and includes a buffet in the casino’s French Quarter restaurant. (Dining-only is $25.) Players can also rebuy and add chips. First place pays $3,000, second is $2,000 and third is $1,000.

Registration begins at 5 p.m., with the buffet open until 7:15 p.m. The tournament begins at 7:30 p.m.
