Sea Star Beachwear: When style, comfort and function intersect
I’m not much of a fan of flip-flops at the beach – I want more support – and old tennis shoes just flat-out lack style. So I was happy to try a pair of beachcomber espadrilles that came to me in the mail from Sea Star Beachwear.
The shoes combine fashion and function, transitioning in style from water sports to walks on the sand while staying comfortable and cool. Designed with a neoprene upper and a protective rubber sole bottom, the espadrilles dry out in the sunshine in 15 minutes. The founders, Libby Fitzgerald and Michael Leva from New York, wanted to create a shoe that you could wear into the water but also attractive enough to wear to town. They stayed on not only at the beach, but in my ensuing trip into Publix, the drive home and my post-trip chill time in my backyard pool. Good stuff.
Sea Star Beachwear espadrilles are available at seastarbeachwear.com for $89 in a wide range of colors and print. New styles include the seafarer sling back for women, the mariner slip for men and kids includes now toddlers sizes for $78. JCrew.com is also carrying an exclusive gingham print style and Nordstrom is selling select styles from Sea Star Beachwear in Tampa, Boca Raton, Palm Beach and Aventura.
