Weather delays Florida City opening

The continuous rain has delayed the opening of Kings Court jai-alai and poker room in Florida City. The first jai-alai match was set for Sunday to meet a state deadline for activating a pari-mutuel permit but has now been rescheduled for 11:30 a.m. Friday, June 16.

Jai-alai must run for one day before the poker room opens, so the card room is pushed back from Monday to June 17.

Kings Court director of pari-mutuel operations Milt Roth the state is “very understanding” and the challenge is finishing parking lot paving.

Kings Court, at the intersection of south Miami and the Floriday Keys, is owned by the Brunetti family, which also owns Hialeah Park. Twitter: @NickSortal
