Push right buttons at Calder, win trip to Vegas

There isn’t much strategy to playing slots, so a “slot tournament” consists of basically pushing a button as fast as you can.

That said, an event at Calder Casino feeds into a national tournament that pays $1 million to the winner.

The awkwardly phrased TournEvent of Champions runs on Saturdays through Aug. 20. Two winners will then go to the XS Nightclub in Las Vegas  Sept. 28 to compete against qualifiers from more than 100 casinos across the United States.

You need to earn 50 slot points during the week at Calder to qualify for the Saturday competitions. From there, players accrue points for the trip to Vegas. The person with the most points as of Aug. 20 wins a spot. Then the next 399 players return on Aug. 27 to play off to be Calder’s second representative.

Rounds last three minutes, and the quicker you push the “spin” button, the more chances you have to score points. So, get those fingers in shape.
